Bluesky is a decentralized, open-source social media platform designed as a user-controlled alternative to X (formerly Twitter). Founded by former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey and currently led by CEO Jay Graber, it offers a familiar, text-based, microblogging experience with custom feeds and moderation tools, allowing users to move their data across different apps
Key Features of Bluesky:
Decentralized Technology: Built on the AT Protocol, which acts as an open-source framework rather than a closed, single-company platform.
User Control: Offers customizable feeds and superior moderation tools.
Similar to Twitter: Operates similarly to the "old" Twitter, allowing 300-character posts, images, and short videos.
Open Access: Grew rapidly, surpassing 20 million users, as a popular alternative for those leaving X, particularly following the 2024 U.S. election.
Interoperability: Users can change apps without losing their followers or content because it operates on a decentralized network.
Bluesky was originally conceived in 2019 within Twitter but became an independent, self-governing entity in 2022, shortly before X was acquired by Elon Musk.
